As some of you may have noticed, there are a few cards with titles printed in gold text in the Panini America relaunch of the Dragon Ball Z TCG. This means that the card is an exact reprint of a Dragon Ball Z CCG Score Entertainment card, and either the Panini America or Score Entertainment version of the card can be used (even both in one deck, up to the limit the card can be played) in official events using the PanZ format.
Some of you may be wondering why certain cards have the gold borders while others that are seeming identical did not. It’ll vary from card to card, but in general any card that used the phrase “Tokui Waza” in the Score Entertainment game would be ineligible for “reprint” status since there is no concept of “Tokui Waza” in the Panini America game. Also any Combat or Non-Combat cards (and ergo any card that referred to those card types) would also not be eligible for the gold lettered treatment, as those card types do not exist in the Panini America game.
Here is the list of the 16 Score Entertainment cards legal in Panini America events.
Black Side Thrust
Black Energy Web
Blue Defensive Flight
Blue Arm Blast
Blue Round Throw
Orange Power Point
Red Power Punch
Red Energy Defensive Stance
Red Energy Shield
Red Blocking Hand
Saiyan Energy Toss
Saiyan Wrist Block
Saiyan Energy Rupture
Saiyan Focus
Saiyan Direct Strike
Saiyan Lightning Dodge
And lastly, even though Saiyan Surprise has a golden title, it has the dubious honor of being one of the first cards errata’d to not being a direct reprint due to the discrepancy between the amounts of damage each version of the attack does.

Later, BroZ
Black side thrust has Tokui Waza in the text box….
Does that really matter though?
Your missing Black Scout Maneuver.. Just replace non-combat with setup.
Black Scout Maneuver does not have a gold title. Differences include the card being an Event rather than a Combat card, it can now search out Event cards but not Combat cards, it is not a Freestyle card and it is not limit to two per deck in non-Black decks.
Panini America Offers a Must-Read Transition Guide for DBZ TCG Players New and Old says combat cards are event cards with this rule you would be able to use old black scout maneuver, blue terror, time is a warriors tool, confrontation and more. also says non-combat are setups and drills are just drills instead of being non-combat sub type, so blue betrayal, Black Searching Technique, Orange Energy Dan Drill and more would also be useable. they also go on to say its up to your location to let you use non gold letter reprints. IMO if the power is the same and I mean the same not like black lunge that now has endurance 1 and dose +4 not +3 like the old one should be allowed.
That’s a guide to help old players understand the game, and not a rulings document or mandate. The official Panini rules are for the gold titled cards only, which is how all official events will be run.
Of course you can play with your cards in any way you wish in non-sanctioned events.
I just noticed on Red Energy Defensive Stance – the old one is physical combat and the new one is energy combat.
Lol Red Blocking Hand!
Are we allowed to play old z cards with the same name and ability in tournaments?
There must be a Panini America card of the same name with gold lettering in order for you to use the old Z cards.
If it is exact not 1 difference if for example Confrontation is not a legal usable reprint in sanctioned events since it says combat n not new Event replacement type
Using DBGT terminology yet ignoring how it translates into old DBZ is rather foolish. Event=Combat, Set Up=Non-Combat it’s really rather easy to understand, especially considering that any of us with the old cards should know this.
with new cards vs old cards Saiyan Energy Rupture, Saiyan Energy Toss, Black Energy Web, Orange Power Point, and Black Energy Web are not exact reprints as non of them have a cost printed on them. this whole reprint thing was done badly.
do’h I put Black Energy Web twice.
Yes I agree, they already fucked it all up n just released, a lot of it was reprinted they just aren’t calling them that cause of the event n setup name change. Be like mtg not allowing reprints cause it use remove from game instead of new exile text
In Score Z energy attacks with no cost printed cost 2 power stages to perform.
@Joshman
You’re welcome. I made this easy for you. 🙂
That’s bs a lot of that shit is reprinted but tgey not counting it cause the changed combat cards to Events….comfrontation is exact same except the event n combat word switch….so basically 90% of thier reprints are gonna be called original cause it changed 1 fucking word n they gonna use this to inflate new n old card prices
If 1 words is different it’s not a reprint and is illegal to use PERIOD!!! It is a tactic to control card value n price without having to worry bout previous prints, change 1 word n Tada old card becomes worthless cause it’s say event instead of combat or red knife hand to black knife hand,
Panini have stated that sayian suprise n black side thrust misprinted n shouldn’t have gold text due to toki wazu n damage difference
The wording on the old cards is vastly superior. The Panini version’s cards just read very poorly. ALL Score cards should be legal.
Piccolo would definitely end up more relevant again. I think they did this on purpose to improve revenue. If you look into most of the “non gold text” reprints, they’re word for word the same, except for the rarity. Time is a warrior’s tool ended up as a rare when it was a common and orange upercut went to being double of what it’s worth. It’s one thing to ban the actual good cards, but another to limit us to buying their product for cards we already own.
