This is no joke, you heard it right. After years of staying true as a community, hosting events, writing content, and creating virtual cards… WE WON! Say that again out loud with me and pump your fist… “WE WON!” This is not a new game, this is the original Jim Ward designed, Score Entertainment published Dragon Ball Z CCG. This is the game that we love to play.
The first announcements for the game came Wednesday night out of the Panini America booth at Comic-Con International. Information is scarce, but what we do know is as follows:
- Expected release date is Fall 2014.
- Initial set is around 160 cards.
- Cards will be released in starter decks and booster packs.
- Starter Decks will come 8 per box, retail around $14.99 each and have six exclusive personality sets.
- Booster packs will have 12 cards per pack and retail around $3.99 each. Boxes will have 24 packs.
- Ultra Rares will come in one out of every 72 packs
Known characters so far are Goku, Krillin, Piccolo, Vegeta and Frieza. The first promo card to be revealed is Super Saiyan God Goku.

YES!
Fantastic news!
Guessing the older cards won’t be allowed to be mixed with the new lot then?
At tournaments, not sure, but in another article right before this,t hey stated these ARE compatible with the old cards! Wonder if the card backs will be the same too, or if sleeves are required. What I really want to know is will the new cards include printed versions of the Virtual Cards, or if they’ll all be brand new?
The card backs are the same. They will not release printed versions of virtual cards. This game is being made by Panini which is seperate from retrodbzccg.com
Do we know if there will be different formats? Will the classic and virtual cards be allowed in organized play? If the classic cards aren’t allowed, I’ll probably get rid of all of mine. Will there be anything to demo at Gen Con this year. I’ve been waiting for this news for 10 years. OMG I can’t wait for a release date so I can pre-order on Amazon.
Organized Play with only have Panini cards being legal.
Wow, I was already having a good day. Now my day is even better!
Good to know about the classic stuff. I’ll be selling all my old stuff on ebay.
