Deck: Cell (Virtual lv.1) Namekian TS Ally
Question 1:Why did you choose the deck? Some of the cards were a meta call, but the deck itself wasn’t considering what else would be there. I wanted to play something that used Hercule’s Amazing Technique before Retro nerfed it. I also wanted to play something that was combo-ish. Lastly, I never really played Namekian OR Ally before the game died, so I got a second chance.
Question 2: What’s your favorite DBZ personality set and why? Piccolo 1-3 from the Saiyan Saga. The starter decks were random then, and I think I bought 12 over the course of a year without pulling one…
Question 3: If you could change any one DBZ card, what you it be and why? I’d mess with the banned/restricted list quite a bit. Not sure I’d change a single card text otherwise.
Question 4: What’s the speed of an unladed swallow? I don’t speak spanish.
Question 5: What do you think of the current Retro environment (meta)? “Pretty bad. You can throw together 80 random physical attacks with Evil Buu and a mastery, and mindlessly play yourself to at least a .500 record by winning a few die rolls or catching someone with a bad hand. Definitely needs some work.”

Deck: Goku Freestyle MBS EDQ Earth
1: Why did you choose the deck? Haven’t seen it played since Retro brought the game back. Plus it beats Buu with some regularity.
2: What’s your favorite DBZ personality set and why? Zarbon CA 7- CA9. Zarbon is a fave character form the show. His cards are good and nobody plays him!!
3: If you could change any one DBZ card, what you it be and why? Unban This too shall pass!!
4: What’s the speed of an unladed swallow? African or European
5: What do you think of the current Retro environment (meta)? Better than nothing, which is the alternative. JK, these guys do a good job of making the game fun.

Deck: Evil Buu Red CS Beats
1: Why did you choose this deck? I really wanted to play red anger Broly but it just can’t beat Buu so a mastery and MP switch was made.
2:What’s you favorite DBZ personality card set and why? As much as I hate to say it goku. His levels are very balanced and even if the older levels are weak the card power makes up for it.
3:If you could change any one dbz card, what would it be and why? Ultimate champ. I feel the current world champ should be able to use it. Every year a new person would have the honor of using it.
4: Whats the speed of an unladed swallow? Over 9,000!?!?
5:What do you think about the current Retro environment (meta)? Fun but with the DP rule gone it makes rush very hard to beat in a best of one format. Maybe best of three would balance it out.(only if who goes first game three is decided on a die roll.)

Deck: Evil Buu Cell Saga Red Style
Question 1: Why did you choose this deck?
I’ve always loved playing red style beat down decks. Originally I was planning on using Cell’s level 1 HT as my Main Personality but decided to go with Majin Buu, Evil Buu since he’s a lot stronger. Before the North Kai tournament I hadn’t played in a tournament in over nine years so I sure what to expect from others. I consider myself a noob since during the original DBZ run I only played in a handful of local tournaments as well as casual games with friends.
Question 2: What’s your favorite DBZ personality card set? Why?
Without a doubt my favorite personality set is Majin Vegeta from the Babidi Saga. I had so many ideas of what I could do with it but those ideas fell flat since I was hoping for a Majin Style Mastery to be created by Score. In retrospect I might have been able to pull off a Freestyle Majin Vegeta deck but I was young and broke at the time. Now it might be my next project.
Question 3: If you could change any one DBZ card what would it be and why?
I always wanted to see this, whenever Android 19 or 20 take life cards of damage they “absorb” it and gain stages based on how many life cards were lost.

What nerd came up with these questions? Just kidding! I’ll be honest, it’s only been about a month since I’ve been back in the game so I need to play more people and get a better feel for the state of the game. I should get on OCTGN soon, well once I figure that out how to set it up.

Deck: Future Gohan WG Namekian Beats
1: Why did you choose this deck? It was a deck taht I knew no one else would think about and playing deck outside the norm is my style.
2:What’s you favorite DBZ personality card set and why? Saibamen because levels 1-4 were my first MP for my first deck. I still have them foil as well.
3:If you could change any one dbz card, what would it be and why? I think Evil Buu’s level 1 should be changed to “If successful” over all or limit him to only being able to use the power if he is the attacker.
4: Whats the speed of an unladed swallow? Cosmic Backlash???
5:What do you think about the current Retro environment (meta)? I like it, but i do miss the double power rule. Maybe not the whole go first part but the higher at 2 above and the weaker at full.

1: Why did you choose this deck? Krillin has always been fun for me to play and I wanted to see people’s faces when he wins, violently. I’ve been running this deck for the past 9 years and love letting people see the potential of underdogs.
2:What’s you favorite DBZ personality card set and why? Majin Buu, for just the sheer amount of possibilities, and Krilling for shock value.
3:If you could change any one dbz card, what would it be and why? Change Champ Aura to Krillin’s Champ Aura.

Deck: Evil Buu Black TS
1: Why did you choose this deck? I was going to use Saiyan Broly but was having problems beating full-size Buu. I thought their would be a lot of Red Buu so I ran Black.
2:What’s you favorite DBZ personality card set and why? Bardock. Being able to see hand at all times is best ability in the game and by far the most fun.
3:If you could change any one dbz card, what would it be and why? I wouldn’t change anything. I don’t like to change cards. The meta will eventually adjust.
4: Whats the speed of an unladed swallow? I don’t understand the question and i won’t dignify it with an anwser.
5:What do you think about the current Retro environment (meta)? Beats is strong. Buu beats in general.

I hear ya’ll on the Majin Buu issue, I complain about it often myself (just watch a few of the Garlic Jr. videos). The problem is, that’s a Score card so there isn’t a lot we can do about it. We don’t want to get in the habit of banning the strongest personality in the game.
I agree Josh, there’s not much you can go about Buu. Until Bills comes out. 😉
Personally I find part of the issue is the changing of the dpr strengthened him. Instead of altering old cards release some cards to make other styles stand a better chance
Just want to thank Garrett and Josh for posting updates on the North Kai Tournament and their support. Also, on the deck lists issue, I left it up to the participants themselves to send them. I believe something’s are better left unknown and gotta figure it out for yourself. Also, video should be sent soon once our tech guys figure out how to resize it for email. Thanks again for reading.

Double power rule . . .
Some of the decks are posted on the facebook. I know mine and Nicks is for sure. I’ll attempt to write something up this weekend to be posted here.

…and yeah—no double power rule ~ there's no reason to NOT run buu, thats the problem
I’m just not sure when it comes to buu nerfing though. I understand it and kinda agree with it, but I’m a firm believer in having the game consistent in a way with the show, and flat out Buu is THE strongest in the show, bar none. His personality should reflect that. Maybe the way it does now isn’t fair, but.. I mean it’s not an easy situation. idk.
Banning Buu is a pathetic solution and one I hope that doesn’t happen. He is nothing like SWK who has a unique defense mechanism and can regen. any 5 cards every combat. And even then, SWK can be beat. Buu’s high power rating actually makes him vulnerable to ally decks. A lot of people are using Buu these days. Why? Because he is actually a good MP and rogue to top it off! Out of all the mp’s out there, about half of them are actually worth playing. Instead of banning the good ones, hell, if anything, upgrade the crappy old ones!
Like that Namekian Gohan….like seriously, wtf? Really? That’s the best you guys could come up with? How about make a new dende lv.1 or a new chiaotzu lv.1? Make some of the crappier mp’s playable instead.
Not trying to be mean but some of the changes made to this game don’t make any sense.

I say you gotta give some sort of advantage to the player going second since having the initiative can win games in itself. Nothing too overpowering. Maybe even modifying the double power rule could be enough. Instead of going by the actual power level numbers I would go by powerchart brackets and the DP rule would no longer effect who goes first. So if you used Buu you would still start at 2 above 0, but would still have a chance to go first.
Then again..I think changing Buu’s powerstage gaining effect to “if successful” would tone Buu down enough without totally nerfing him.
